No fortress in England boasts a longer history than Dover Castle. Serving as a vital strategic centre since the Iron Age, the castle and surrounding buildings and fortifications have been rebuilt and added to many times during it's long history, and thousands of visitors now enjoy this major tourist attraction owned and maintained by English Heritage.

Starting life as an Iron Age hill fort (the earthworks of which still remain to this day), a Roman lighthouse, Saxon church, Norman Keep and secret underground tunnels are among the many structures still standing and available to discover in the grounds, which have witnessed sieges, sheltered armies, and played numerous other vital roles in protecting the country.

The castle's spectacular views offer a memorable setting for a day out, with regular events taking place to highlight the colourful history of the location.
